On July 10th, forty states submitted pre-applications to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) for $8 billion in federal funding appropriated for high speed rail in the America Recovery and Reinvestment Act. These forty states submitted 270 pre-applications totaling more than $100 billion. According to the FRA, the pre-applications were meant to "gauge overall program interest and to initiate a consultative process with potential applicants in advance of formal applications."
States now have until the end of August or the beginning of October, depending on the type of funding sought, to complete the full application for the funds. Below is a list of states that submitted pre-applications and the total amount of funding sought.
